About Messier Maris & Associés

Messier Maris & Associés is an investment banking firm providing tailored strategic advisory services in M&A, corporate restructuring, privatizations, and PE transactions.

Located in Paris, New-York and London, Messier Maris & Associés was set up by Jean-Marie Messier and Erik Maris at the end of 2010. Our firm has since expanded and counts five Partners as of today.

Jean-Marie Messier, former CEO of Vivendi Universal and ex-Lazard Frères General Partner, created Messier Partners in 2003.

Erik Maris, the former co-head and General Partner of Lazard Frères joined the team in 2010 to form the newly branded “Messier Maris & Associés”.

François Roussely and Fady Lahame, respectively previously Vice-Chairman Europe and Co-Head of IB France and Belux at Credit Suisse, just joined the firm.

Jean-François Cizain joined in September 2015 as Head of Restructuring and Debt Advisory. He was previously in charge of the restructuring practice and infrastructure finance advisory at Lazard Frères. In September 2013, he founded Special Debt Situations Limited, an advisory boutique focusing on restructuring and capital structure advisory.

A team of c.50 international professionals spread across Paris, New York, and London, Messier Maris & Associés has grown into one of the most dynamic M&A Advisory houses among established investment banks. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, its high-caliber team builds on the experience and international relationships of its partners to advise and execute transactions.

In February 2015, Messier Maris & Associés signed a joint-venture agreement with Millstein & Co., a financial advisory firm comprising of c.40 professionals in New York and Washington DC. Founded by Jim Millstein, the former Chief Restructuring Officer at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Millstein & Co. provides independent advisory to private corporations, institutional investors and governmental clients involved in mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, and other special situations.

Jean-Marie Messier
General Partner

Prior to founding Messier Maris & Associés in 2003, Jean-Marie Messier has been Chairman & CEO of Vivendi Universal for 8 years.
Prior, Jean-Marie was a General Partner at Lazard Frères for 6 years. He has also been an advisor to the French Minister of Economy from 1986 to 1988, in charge of the first ever privatization program in France.
He graduated from Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Nationale d'Administration.

Erik Maris
General Partner

Prior to forming « Messier Maris & Associés », Erik spent 19 years at Lazard where he held several positions, the latest being co-Head and General Partner of Lazard Frères.
He started his career at Morgan Stanley in London and New York after graduating from HEC.

François Roussely

Prior to joining Messier Maris & Associés, François Roussely most recently served as Vice Chairman Europe of Credit Suisse Group in charge of the Group’s development efforts in the Energy sector.
Mr. Roussely is a widely respected political and business figure in France and Europe, having notably served as the Chairman of EDF from 1998 to 2004. He also occupied various positions in the French Administration from 1981 to 1997, most notably Chief of Police from 1989 to 1991, Secretary General for Administration at the Ministry of Defense, member of the Nuclear Energy Committee at the CEA and member of the Board of Société Nationale Immobilière from 1991 to 1997.
Mr. Roussely is a graduate of the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris and the Paris Law and Economics University. He attended École Nationale d'Administration.

Fady Lahame

Prior to joining Messier Maris & Associés, Fady spent over 19 years at Credit Suisse, most recently as Co-Head of the Investment Banking Department France & BeLux.
He arrived at Credit Suisse in 1996 and was promoted to Managing Director and Head of the French M&A team in 2007.
He graduated from HEC.

Jean-François Cizain

Prior to joining Messier Maris & Associés, Jean-François had founded Special Debt Situations Limited, an advisory boutique focusing on restructuring and capital structure advisory in September 2013.
He notably spent close to 20 years at Lazard Frères and most recently as Head of the restructuring practice and infrastructure finance advisory.
He graduated from HEC and ESTP.
